{"id":19510,"date":"2021-04-12T15:57:55","date_gmt":"2021-04-12T15:57:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/pnr\/?p=19510"},"modified":"2026-02-03T18:48:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T18:48:09","slug":"2021-2026-rml-cooperative-agreements","status":"archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_5\/2021-2026-rml-cooperative-agreements\/","title":{"rendered":"NLM Awards 2021-2026 Regional Medical Library Cooperative Agreements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Library of Medicine (NLM) has awarded a new five-year cooperative agreement grant to the University of Washington (UW) Health Sciences Library to lead the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/news\/NNLM_Cooperative_Agreement_Announcement_Statement.html\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">NNLM\u00a0Regional Medical Library (RML)\u00a0Region 5<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> serving a six-state region including Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and U.S. Territories and Freely Associated States. Region 5 is part of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), which will include 7 Regional Medical Libraries (RMLs) as of May 1, 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The core mission of the NNLM is to improve access to the highest level of evidence-based health information, with an emphasis on reaching the most underserved communities. The NLM grant funds the UW RML\u2019s Region 5 program<em> Reaching More People in More Ways<\/em> to advance data driven health, health equity and health literacy through community-driven outreach that equitably informs U.S. researchers, health professionals, librarians, educators, and the public about the NLM\u2019s products, information services, funding, professional development, and training.\u00a0The program also provides direct funding (grants) to regional partners to improve access through technology and provide training to equalize and enhance access to health information for everyone \u2013 from clinicians to patients and to the general public.<\/p>\n<p>UW has hosted the RML for 5 states in the Pacific Northwest Region (AK, ID, MT, OR, and WA) since the program\u2019s inception in 1968. \u00a0The geography of the grant has largely remained unchanged in the last 53 years.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in May 2021, under the new redistributed geography of this grant, Alaska, Washington, and Oregon will be served by the NNLM Region 5 Regional Medical Library at the University of Washington Health Sciences Library; and Idaho and Montana will be served by the NNLM Region 4 Regional Medical Library at the University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library.<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Region 5 (RML: University of Washington, Health Sciences Library) includes:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Alaska\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\"> California\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Hawaii\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Nevada\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Oregon\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\"> Washington\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">U.S. Territories and Freely Associated States in the Pacific\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Region 4\u00a0(RML: University of Utah,\u00a0Spencer S.
