Over the last year, Region 5 staff nurtured relationships built in the pervious two years, leading to innovative collaborations with member organizations; a successful awards &amp; funding program; and continued programs and learning opportunities that are valued by members.<\/p>\n<h1>By the Numbers<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Funded 23 awards, totaling $90,417.<\/li>\n<li>Maintained 831 total members, including 28 new members.<\/li>\n<li>Supported 30 NLM Traveling Exhibits in the Region.<\/li>\n<li>Shared information about NLM resources and NNLM projects through 13 conference presentations, 6 exhibits, 2 column articles, and 1 site visit.<\/li>\n<li>Taught 20 NNLM classes, addressing consumer health; health misinformation; health disparities\/health equity; NLM resources; and telehealth.<\/li>\n<li>Top webinar: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/environmental-health-literacy-engaged-framework-understanding-and-action\"><em>Environmental Health Literacy: An Engaged Framework for Understanding and Action<\/em><\/a>, had 346 registrants, 177 attendees, and 123 recording views.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Key Accomplishments<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Created <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/about\/regions\/region5\/tutorials\">7 plain language video tutorials about MedlinePlus<\/a> for community health workers, in collaboration with a member organization in Oregon, The Next Door. The tutorials have over 600 cumulative views on YouTube.<\/li>\n<li>Led the planning and marketing of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class-catalog\/sdoeh-webinar-series\"><em>Social Determinants of Environmental Health Webinar Series<\/em><\/a>, which had 9 events and 2,020 total registrants.<\/li>\n<li>Celebrated Cathy Burroughs\u2019s retirement, and welcomed a new Executive Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_5\/hello-from-nnlm-region-5-staff-kathryn-vela\/\">Kathryn Vela<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Top Programs &amp; Activities<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Hosted 2 Library Carpentry Workshops, with 41 attendees overall.<\/li>\n<li>Provided access to the film <em>Laboring with Hope <\/em>to 8 members to prompt discussions about maternal health disparities and share reliable health information.<\/li>\n<li>Organized regionally relevant webinars on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/homelessness-and-inclusion-health\">homelessness<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class\/navigating-food-insecurity-understanding-complexities-food-environment\">food insecurity<\/a> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class-catalog\/pnc-mla-health-equity-and-diversity-speaker-series\"><em>PNC-MLA Health Equity and Diversity Speaker Series<\/em><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Led the development of three new modules for the Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS) Level 2.<\/li>\n<li>Partnered with the Hawaii Pacific Chapter of MLA to circulate NLM\u2019s retired <em>Native Voices<\/em> exhibit in Hawaii.<\/li>\n<li>Mentored students and new professionals through a capstone project with University of Washington iSchool students to create NNLM\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/resources-supporting-deia\">DEIA Guide<\/a>; a practicum for a NLM Associate Fellow; and an internship with a San Jose State University student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to the NNLM Region 5 staff and members for an excellent year!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On April 30, 2024, the Network of the National Library of Medicine, Region 5 wrapped up the third year of our 5-year program.
