{"id":21958,"date":"2025-12-09T21:04:09","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T21:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_5\/?p=21958"},"modified":"2025-12-09T21:04:09","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T21:04:09","slug":"recorded-webinar-empathylens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_5\/recorded-webinar-empathylens\/","title":{"rendered":"Recorded Webinar Available, Empathy Lens: Humanizing Images and Education for Reducing Stigma Against People Who Use Drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On December 4, 2025, NNLM Region 5 hosted the webinar \u201cEmpathy Lens: Humanizing Images &amp; Education for Reducing Stigma Against People Who Use Drugs.\u201d During the webinar, speakers Meg Brunner and Erinn McGraw from the <a href=\"https:\/\/adai.uw.edu\/\">Addictions, Drug &amp; Alcohol Institute<\/a> at the University of Washington introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/empathylens.org\/\">Empathy Lens<\/a>, free photographs related to drug and alcohol use, prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction. The goal of Empathy Lens is to reduce stigma against people who use drugs and the services available to support them by encouraging the use of realistic, humanizing imagery in education, media, and other forms of information dissemination.<\/p>\n<p>The webinar recording is available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ks3Ptfka7J8\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Empathy Lens project was funded by NNLM Region 5 though an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/funding\/projects\/839\">Outreach &amp; Engagement Award in 2024-25<\/a>. The photos included in Empathy Lens were taken at harm reduction and treatment organizations across Washington State. In addition to photos, Empathy Lens provides <a href=\"https:\/\/empathylens.org\/stigma-education\/\">education on stigma<\/a> in drug-related health information, and links to <a href=\"https:\/\/empathylens.org\/other-collections\/\">other online collections<\/a> with a similar purpose.
