The ten warmest years have been since 2015. Temperatures are expected to continue to rise while the number of extreme heat days are also expected to occur more often.<\/p>\n<p>Extreme <a href=\"https:\/\/newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org\/discussion\/how-extreme-heat-and-humidity-affect-your-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heat can impact health<\/a> and it is especially dangerous for those already affected by pre-existing health conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Heat related illnesses include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heat rash<\/li>\n<li>Heat exhaustion<\/li>\n<li>Heat stroke<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Existing medical conditions are worsened by heat such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension<\/li>\n<li>Respiratory diseases such as asthma<\/li>\n<li>Neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis<\/li>\n<li>Mental health conditions such as anxiety<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Considering the impact of heat on health, it is important to keep your community connected to vital information.<\/p>\n<h3>Resources<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/heat.gov\/resources-guides\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heat.gov<\/a> includes several resources and guides to help prepare for extreme heat. From creating a personal heat safety plan to checklists for your home, these resources cover everything from emergency kit essentials to tips for cooling your living space.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/safety\/heat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration)<\/a> has created a space with tabs or use the side menu to view quick information on topics such as heat safety, what to do during a heat wave, games and activities for kids, and more.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/climate-health\/php\/resources\/protect-yourself-from-the-dangers-of-extreme-heat.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC<\/a> has several web pages focusing on heat but \u201cProtect Yourself From the Dangers of Extreme Heat\u201d includes information on various aspects of heat for the public. There\u2019s also their <a href=\"https:\/\/ephtracking.cdc.gov\/Applications\/heatTracker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heat &amp; Health Tracker<\/a> to explore your community\u2019s heat exposure, related health outcomes, and assets that can protect people during heat events.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org\/get-help\/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies\/types-of-emergencies\/extreme-heat-safety.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Red Cross<\/a> has information on how to prepare before extreme heat, experiencing extreme heat, and after. Also included is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redcross.org\/get-help\/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies\/types-of-emergencies\/extreme-heat-safety\/heat-check.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">information for specific populations and needs<\/a> such as people who have chronic health conditions, who are using drugs or alcohol, people who are pregnant, people with disabilities, etc.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ready.gov\/heat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ready.gov<\/a> provides information in multiple languages focusing on how to prepare for heat and heat related illnesses.<\/p>\n<h3>State Resources<\/h3>\n<p>Included here are some state specific resources but know that each state has multiple resources not listed here that are often county or city specific.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/heatready.ca.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heat Ready CA<\/a><br \/>\nThis is one of the nation\u2019s first statewide multi-ethnic awareness and education campaigns designed to keep Californians safer during extreme heat. You\u2019ll find an array of information including a toolkit with suggested messaging, tips to stay cool for a various populations, and information in multiple languages. It also includes a couple charts of what to do for heat related symptoms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.droregon.org\/extreme-heat-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disability Rights Orgon<\/a> includes tips for how you can stay safe and healthy, a list of cooling centers across the state, and information about the health risks of extreme heat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/doh.wa.gov\/emergencies\/be-prepared-be-safe\/severe-weather-and-natural-disasters\/extreme-heat\/hot-weather-precautions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington State Department of Health<\/a><br \/>\nThe state includes links to a variety of resources such as basic information about heat, locating cooling centers, and health related information.
