<\/p>\nDid you know that NNLM has several on-demand classes? These classes were developed to accommodate people\u2019s busy schedules and different time zones. We heard from many of you that it is hard to find dedicated time for attending live or scheduled classes. On top of that, we have five time zones just in Region 5 alone, not counting the four time zones east of us. So, we developed several consumer health on-demand classes to help. <\/p>\n
These classes are available twenty-four-seven. You can start a class and come back to it days or even months later and take up where you left off. Whether you have commitments at work or at home, these classes can fit a little more easily into your schedule. Below is a list of these classes with links to register, how many CE credits, and whether they are eligible for Level 1 or Level 2 of CHIS (Consumer Health Information Specialization<\/a>). \nDiscover the basics of providing consumer health information through 8 independent learning modules. Earn up to 8 hours credit towards a Consumer Health Information Specialization. Each module cover each of the eight CHIS competencies.<\/p>\n
\nLearn how to conduct a health reference interview using ethical and effective communication strategies in this 3 credit-hour, on-demand class.<\/p>\n
\nThis 2 credit-hour, on-demand class reviews collection management principles, resources and considerations for health-related collections in public libraries. 4 modules and 1 assignment explore collection management policies, how to find information on the health information needs of your community, how to evaluate and assess a collection, and considerations for selecting health related materials for a public library collection.<\/p>\n
\nAn interactive guided tour of the MedlinePlus website that takes about 1 hour to complete.<\/p>\n
\nIf you\u2019re new to PubMed or just want a refresher, this online class is designed for you. This is a 1 MLA CE, self-paced course offered via Moodle. The class is available 24\/7. The class is made up of 10 short units that include videos, exercises and quizzes. The class gives you the chance to explore PubMed at your own pace with guided tours and exercises.<\/p>\n
\nThis 1 hour on-demand class introduces MedlinePlus Connect, and points to resources for implementing MedlinePlus Connect at your institution. MedlinePlus Connect is a tool that enables the integration of MedlinePlus resources into external systems like electronic health record systems, patient portals, and other applications. Working knowledge of MedlinePlus is suggested pre-requisite.<\/p>\n
\nThis 1 credit hour on-demand course provides an introduction to three free resources from the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health: The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) website, DailyMed and LactMed.<\/p>\n
\nThis online, self-paced course introduces and demonstrates searching and understanding search results in ClinicalTrials.gov.<\/p>\n
\nThis online, self-paced course for librarians and students in health sciences describes different types of health statistics, how they are collected, and where they can be found.<\/p>\n
