Through NNLM Region 5, local members have connected patrons with reliable health resources, expanded wellness programming, and built partnerships that bring trusted information closer to the people who need it most.

That work matters everywhere, but it matters especially in communities where access, time, and trust can shape whether someone finds accurate health information or misses it entirely. In Nevada, NNLM Region 5 has supported that effort through membership, funding, outreach, and training designed to help library workers and community organizations do more with confidence.

Today, 29 libraries and organizations in Nevada are NNLM members, and membership is free. That number represents a network of professionals and organizations that are investing in health information outreach and looking for practical ways to serve their communities. For public libraries, academic libraries, and community-based organizations alike, that connection creates a shared starting point for learning, collaboration, and impact.

Funding support has also helped move ideas from planning to action. In Nevada, 4 members received awards totaling $29,400 to strengthen NNLM’s work in their communities. Those awards supported library collections, health programming, and other local efforts that make reliable information easier to find and use. When funding meets community need, the result is often simple but powerful: better access to information people can act on.

NNLM Region 5 also stayed present in the state through direct outreach. In Nevada, Region 5 staff completed 8 outreach events, including 3 conferences and 5 site visits. Those conversations created new connections between Region 5 and Nevada libraries, while also helping staff better understand local priorities and opportunities. This type of outreach is about listening, learning, and building relationships that last.

One of the clearest examples of that approach is the featured award, #GetCarded for Health, supported by NNLM Region 5 and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. Through this project, the library district expanded health and wellness programming and information for the community. Programs included sessions on Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, and the relationship between oral and heart health, among others. The LVCCLD also updated its health and wellness resources online, helping make reliable health information more accessible to the Las Vegas community. It is a strong example of how libraries can serve as trusted access points for practical, everyday health education.

This work across Nevada shows what health information outreach looks like when it is rooted in local relationships: members who stay engaged, awards that support community priorities, outreach that opens doors, and programming that meets people where they are.

If your library or organization is looking for ways to strengthen health information outreach, NNLM training is a great place to begin.
