This post provides a list of resources for communities experiencing wildfires and poor air quality, with an updated list of resources for Spokane and Stevens County (WA) communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are in Spokane County, WA:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/srec911.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/instant\/lookup\/index.html?appid=337af083184c474d9d9181bb44f957b0\">Evacuation Map<\/a> from Spokane County Emergency Services<\/li>\n<li>Reach out to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scld.org\/resources-for-spokane-complex-fires-assistance-with-printing-replacement-ballots\/\">local resources<\/a> for emergency shelter locations, services for pets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scld.org\/helplines-crisis-services-other-resources-for-spokane-county-residents-updated-2023\/#mental-health-suicide-addiction\">mental health support<\/a> and more (local resources lists provided by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scld.org\/\">Spokane County Library District<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smokereadyspokane.org\/\">Smoke Ready Spokane<\/a> for information about staying safe during heavy smoke<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Preparedness and Recovery<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/wildfires.html\"><strong>MedlinePlus.gov: Wildfires<\/strong><\/a> collects information from a wide range of reliable sources on topics such as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/wildfires\/risk-factors\/\">How Wildfire Smoke Affects your Body<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"\/www.epa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2018-11\/documents\/protecting-children-from-wildfire-smoke-and-ash.pdf\">Protecting Children from Wildfire Smoke and Ash<\/a>,\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aao.org\/eye-health\/tips-prevention\/what-to-do-when-smoke-gets-in-your-eyes\">Wildfire Smoke and Burning Eyes: 5 Ways to Cope<\/a>.\u201d Many of these resources are useful while experiencing a wildfire.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.airnow.gov\/\"><strong>AirNow.gov<\/strong><\/a> is a resource from the Environmental Protection Agency and provides\u00a0 data on current air quality by location. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airnow.gov\/wildfires\/\">Wildfires<\/a> page includes a map of current fires and smoke conditions, and resources for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airnow.gov\/wildfires\/be-smoke-ready\/\">before<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airnow.gov\/wildfires\/when-smoke-is-in-the-air\/\">during<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airnow.gov\/wildfires\/after-a-fire\/\">after<\/a> a fire.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ready.gov\/wildfires\"><strong>Ready.gov: Wildfires<\/strong><\/a> lays out a clear and concise plan to follow to prepare for a wildfire, stay safe during, and respond after a wildfire. This information is available in multiple languages.<\/p>\n<h1>Resources by Location<\/h1>\n<h2>Alaska<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/akfireinfo.com\/\"><strong>Alaska Wildland Fire Information<\/strong><\/a> is a project of multiple state and federal agencies. Here you\u2019ll find news stories, information about active fires, and links to resources specific to Alaska.<\/p>\n<h2>California<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fire.ca.gov\/\"><strong>The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE)<\/strong><\/a> is a hub of information on wildfires in California, including maps and data about containment of active fires, news, and information about rebuilding after a fire.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdph.ca.gov\/Programs\/EPO\/pages\/wildfire%20pages\/wildfires--.aspx\"><strong>California Department of Public Health\u2019s Center for Preparedness and Response<\/strong><\/a> includes links to state and federal resources on preparing, responding, and recovering from wildfires, and additional resources to support mental health during and after a fire.<\/p>\n<h2>Hawaii<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.preparenowhawaii.org\/\">Hawaii Department of Health\u2019s Prepare NOW<\/a><\/strong> website is a concise collection of videos, handouts, and information for children about preparing for natural disasters.<\/p>\n<h2>Nevada<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingwithfire.org\/\">Living with Fire<\/a><\/strong> provides information and ongoing educational opportunities for Nevada residents on wildfire prevention.<\/p>\n<h2>Oregon<\/h2>\n<p>The Oregon Department of Emergency Management\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wildfire.oregon.gov\/\">Oregon Wildfire Response &amp; Recovery<\/a> <\/strong>site hosts essential resources for preparing for wildfires, with additional links to news and maps of active fires in Oregon.<\/p>\n<h2>Washington<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ecology.wa.gov\/air-climate\/air-quality\/smoke-fire\">State of Washington Department of Ecology\u2019s Smoke &amp; Fire Management<\/a> <\/strong>page includes links to air quality maps, and tips for staying healthy when the air quality is poor due to wildfire smoke.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/afterthefirewa.org\/\">After the Fire<\/a><\/strong> provides guidance and case studies on wildfire recovery for individuals, homeowners, and agricultural and forest landowners in Washington.<\/p>\n<h2>U.S. Territories and Freely Associated States in the Pacific<\/h2>\n<p>The Center for Getting Things Started hosts <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.c4gts.org\/wildfire\/\">Wildfire Resources<\/a><\/strong>, including a wildfire awareness curriculum for 6-12 th graders and brochures on wildfire prevention and response on Guam, Palau, and other Pacific Islands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wildfires and smokey conditions are currently impacting health across Region 5.
