Pictured, left to right: Stephen Kiyoi, Julie Adamo, Salima M’seffar, Caitlin Sticco, Kristen Greenland, and Kristen Burgess.<\/em><\/p>\n Here at NN\/LM PNR we are particularly pleased to announce the selection of this year’s Associate Fellows class because one of them, Kristen Greenland<\/strong><\/em>, graduated from University of Washington and did her Directed Fieldwork here in the Regional Medical Library Office!\u00a0 Kristen had a variety of experiences, including assisting with promoting and gathering information for the NLM’s Directory of History of Medicine Collections<\/a>, working at the library’s Information Desk, and helping Dental students with a problem-based learning experience.\u00a0 A total of five Associate Fellows, plus one international Associate, will join NLM this fall to begin the year-long training program.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The National Library of Medicine Association Fellowship Program<\/a> is a one-year postgraduate training fellowship at the NLM in Bethesda, Maryland, with an optional second year program component.\u00a0 The program is designed to provide a broad foundation in health sciences information services, and to prepare librarians for future leadership roles in health sciences libraries and in health services research.\u00a0 The Associate Fellows are introduced to a wide range of technologies and skills used in managing information at a national library.<\/p>\n Julie Adamo <\/strong>received her MLS from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2010.\u00a0 While working on her degree, Ms. Adamo worked as a Research Asistant for UNC’s GrnatSource Libray and as\u00a0 a Knowledge Services Assistant for Ipas, a non-profit women’s health research organization.\u00a0 She also completed internships in the Instruction and Outreach department at the Duke University Libraries and UNC’s Health Sciences Library.<\/p>\n Kristen Burgess <\/strong>received her MLS from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2010.\u00a0 She received her BA in International Studies from Emory University during which time she studied in France and interned at a primary school and health clinic in Uganda.\u00a0 While completing her MLS, Ms. Burgess worked as the Senior Administrator at KDH Research & Communication, a public health and public policy research institution.<\/p>\n Kristen Greenland <\/strong>received her MLIS from the University of Washington in 2010.\u00a0 She receied a PhD in Molecular & Cellular Biology from the University of Washington in 2008, and a BA from Carleton College in 2001 with a major in Biology.\u00a0 During Dr. Greenland’s time in the MLIS program, she worked as a research scientist in the biochemistry department where she studied cell division regulation in yeast.<\/p>\n Stephen Kiyoi <\/strong>received his MLIS from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) with a focus on Medical Informatics in 2010.\u00a0 While pursuing his degree, he worked as a Public Service Assistant at UCLA’s Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library and as a student assistant to Christine Borgman, Presidential Chair of the Information Studies deparment.\u00a0 Mr. Kiyoi also interned at the Norris Medical Library at the University of Southern California.<\/p>\n Caitlin Sticco <\/strong>received her MLs in 2009, and a Specialist Certificate in Library and Information Studies in 2010, both from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.\u00a0 She received her BS in Biomedical Science from Antioch College, and has worked as a technician in molecular and cellular biology.\u00a0 While completing her graduate education, Ms. Sticco worked for the Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Prevention Resources as assistant special librarian and the UW Laboratory for Optical and Computational Instrumentation as a bioimaging informatics research assistant.<\/p>\n Salima M’seffar <\/strong>is from Morocco and is an International Fellow.\u00a0 She received her BA in June 2004 from L’Ecole de l’Information in Morocco with honors, and her certificate in Spanish in 2008.\u00a0 She joined the National Institute of Hygiene (Rabat, Morocco) in November 2004 where she is in charge of the library.\u00a0 Since the National Institute of Hygiene started working on in transition to becoming the National Public Health Academy, Ms. M’seffar has supported its decision making through online searching and survey, and supporting ISO quality certification in Laboratories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Pictured, left to right: Stephen Kiyoi, Julie Adamo, Salima M’seffar, Caitlin Sticco, Kristen Greenland, and Kristen Burgess.
