{"id":9494,"date":"2013-11-22T15:41:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-22T23:41:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nnlm.gov\/pnr\/dragonfly\/?p=9494"},"modified":"2026-02-03T16:42:36","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T16:42:36","slug":"an-app-to-be-aware-of-bugs-drugs","status":"archive","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_5\/an-app-to-be-aware-of-bugs-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"An app to be aware of &#8211; Bugs &amp; Drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An important mobile app review was posted on the site iMedicalApps yesterday. \u00a0The review of Epocrates&#8217; new app &#8220;Bugs &amp; Drugs,&#8221; though a bit longer than most of iMedicalApps review pieces is worth a read (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imedicalapps.com\/2013\/11\/epocrates-bugs-drugs-app-antibiogram\/\">here<\/a>). \u00a0 In this review, author Timothy Aungst, PharmD, judiciously points out the potential utility of this app billed as a &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epocrates.com\/e\/BugsAndDrugs\">antimicrobial susceptibility reference<\/a>&#8221; intended to aid clinicians in selecting antibiotics by identifying localized bacterial resistance patterns. <!--more-->With the purpose established, Aungst methodically works through several examples of outright errors in the information provided by the app. \u00a0He closes the review pointing out that Epocrates states that the app has been downloaded more than 100,000 times (Yahoo!
