Thanks to GMR for the Expert Speaker Award to support the Health Sciences Librarians of Illinois (HSLI) webinar \u201cHealth Sciences Archives 101, held Thursday, November 12. As so many other organizations have done, HSLI had to cancel its 2020 conference due to COVID-19, and had been looking for some alternate continuing education options for members (and beyond).<\/p>\n

Our expert speaker was Lisa Mix, who has been Head of Archives at New York Presbyterian Hospital as well as an archivist at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, and the University of California San Francisco.<\/p>\n

Lisa led participants through what to do if you are suddenly given responsibility for archives at your medical institution.\u00a0 She provided practical steps and recommended a wealth of support resources, including NLM History of Medicine Division<\/a>, the History of Medicine Finding Aids Consortium<\/a>, and NLM Digital Collections<\/a>. \u00a0\u00a0She provided encouragement to \u201caccidental archivists\u201d who find themselves adding this role to those \u201cother duties as assigned.\u201d<\/p>\n
