Contact <a href=\"mailto:nto@utah.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nto@utah.edu<\/a> for information about obtaining continuing education credit.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is CHIS?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>CHIS stands for Consumer Health Information Specialization, a program by the Medical Library Association (MLA). CHIS is recognition for the accomplishment of acquiring new health information skills through training about providing health information services to consumers. NNLM provides free, online training in support of CHIS.<\/p>\n<h2>Why Get a CHIS?<\/h2>\n<p>Library workers know the value of accurate information. Enhance and expand your skills with evidence-based knowledge and resources that will make you a confident, expert provider of health information to your community. CHIS shows employers, colleagues, and the public that you are committed to offering quality consumer health information services, and to staying current with consumer health information resources, technologies, and services.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Earn CHIS credits<\/h2>\n<h3>Level 1<\/h3>\n<p>12 hours of approved continuing education, must cover CHIS core competencies 1-5<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Know the Community<\/li>\n<li>Know the Health Consumer<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of Subject Matter and Existing Resources<\/li>\n<li>Health Information Evaluation<\/li>\n<li>Communication and Instruction<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Level 2<\/h3>\n<p>12 additional hours of continuing education, cannot be classes you took to earn Level 1, must cover competencies 6-8<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">6. Literacy and Health Literacy<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">7. Technology and Health<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">8.
