More than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ncbddd\/disabilityandhealth\/infographic-disability-impacts-all.html\">1 in 4 adults in the United States<\/a> have some kind of disability. Disability pride is defined as accepting and honoring each person\u2019s uniqueness and seeing it as a natural and beautiful part of human diversity. Many disabilities are &#8220;invisible,&#8221; meaning you can&#8217;t tell just by looking at someone that they have a disability. Disabilities can affect people of any age, and it&#8217;s not always apparent from their appearance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Start<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discover what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessliving.org\/newsroom\/blog\/ableism-101\/\">ableism<\/a> is and how to recognize and avert ableism.<\/li>\n<li>Learn about <a href=\"https:\/\/educationonline.ku.edu\/community\/person-first-vs-identity-first-language\">person-first vs. identity-first language<\/a>. While person-first language is popular with those working with people with disabilities, some disability communities prefer <a href=\"https:\/\/autisticadvocacy.org\/about-asan\/identity-first-language\/\">identity-first language<\/a>. It is important to know about the community you are working with.<\/li>\n<li>Try these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ncbddd\/disabilityandhealth\/dhds\/index.html\">tips for communicating <\/a>with and about people with disabilities.
