Students will use the knowledge and skills they acquire to develop content for the NNLM <a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/collections\/22c9060fc8154b5eafcbca2fc9464851\">Community Guide to Advance Health Information Equity<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Internship details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some flexibility has been designed to accommodate different program schedules, but the approximate dates are February 3 \u2013 April 25, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The internship requires a commitment of a minimum of two hours per week, but students may work up to four hours to dive deeper into the week\u2019s topic and resources.<\/p>\n<p>Each week will begin with a virtual check-in meeting with the instructors and other students. These meetings will be used to connect and build comradery, introduce the topic and assignment for the week, share the prompt for the weekly journal Reflection, and answer questions.<\/p>\n<p>The weekly assignments have been designed to build the knowledge and skills needed to successfully complete the following deliverables:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One county story for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/collections\/22c9060fc8154b5eafcbca2fc9464851\">Community Guide to Advance Health Information Equity<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Weekly reflections on the internship experience.<\/li>\n<li>Constructive feedback for improving the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/collections\/22c9060fc8154b5eafcbca2fc9464851\">Community Guide to Advance Health Information Equity<\/a>\u00a0project and the overall NNLM internship experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the end of this internship, students will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have recognized how social, economic, and environment determinants affect health outcomes for individuals and communities.<\/li>\n<li>Have Identified credible and reliable data and information resources to help build capacity for understanding health information needs in communities.<\/li>\n<li>Used GIS software to build a community data map and internet story.<\/li>\n<li>Have an increased awareness for how libraries and other community organizations are an important and trustworthy partner for advancing health literacy.<\/li>\n<li>Know how to engage with NNLM for continued education training for consumer health outreach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our Spring 2024 student intern, Annisija Hunter, said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThis internship kept me focused on health librarianship during my last semester of school. My school didn&#8217;t have a health sciences emphasis, so this internship gave me much needed experience. I learned a lot about the social determinants of health, health data, and where to find health data. Then I compiled the data for a single county and presented it in the Community Guide to Advance Health Information Equity.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Learn more about Annisija\u2019s experience in her <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/2SNHEw6S2EU?feature=shared\">YouTube presentation<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Up to four students will be selected to participate in the internship.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To apply, submit a resume and a statement of your career goals to <a href=\"mailto:erica-lake@uiowa.edu\">erica-lake@uiowa.edu<\/a>.
