Quinnipiac University (QU), with campuses in North Haven and Hamden, Connecticut will be hosting one of the National Library of Medicine Traveling Exhibitions. QU’s Netter and Arnold Bernhard Libraries in partnership with the Department of Physician Assistant Studies will host Physician Assistants: Collaboration and Care, a traveling exhibit, August 28, 2024 through October 3, 2024.
The National Library of Medicine produced Physician Assistants: Collaboration and Care in partnership with the Physician Assistant History Society. The traveling banner exhibition and companion website explore how the Physician Assistant (PA) profession developed as a solution to meet the social and health care needs of the mid-20th century and continues to evolve today. Collaboration has been the foundation of the profession since the first three PAs graduated from Duke University in 1967. PAs practice medicine alongside doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals, treating patients in diverse communities and addressing health care shortages.
During the exhibition, QU has scheduled several activities with speakers. The Opening Event on August 29th at 2pm will feature Alec Williams, QU PA graduate, Sarah Adams, Immediate Past President of the Connecticut Academy of PAs (ConnAPA), and Jason Prevelige, President and Chair of the Board of the American Academy of PAs and QU PA graduate. This event will take place on the Mt. Carmel Campus.
The Closing Event will be held at the Edward and Barbara Netter Library on the North Haven Campus of QU and will feature William C. Kohlhepp, Professor Emeritus and physician assistant for over 40 years. He was awarded the Physician Assistant Education Association Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. Additionally, he has been recognized as “PA of the Year” by the Connecticut Academy of PAs in 2019 and by the American Academy of PAs in Occupational Medicine in 2006.
The library has also created a LibGuide to accompany the exhibition including information about the exhibit, history of the PA Profession, Physician Assistants program at QU, career and patient facing information about the PA Profession, and a virtual book display.
