The recording is now available for our Hospital Libraries Advisory Group meeting. We met on Friday, August 8, 2025. The meeting was designed for hospital librarians who work in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. This was a recap of our activities over the last year. We announced our training ideas for the upcoming months. During the discussion, we heard how AI impacts the work of hospital librarians. The group discussion was not recorded.
Not too late to join our book discussion! The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) invites you to participate in our next Book Discussion, open to library staff, health professionals, and public health workers. This is a chance to connect with colleagues through literature, discuss how to improve health information services, and earn Continuing Education (CE) credit.
We are reading Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi, a novel that explores mental health, addiction, family, and faith. The story follows Gifty, a neuroscience PhD student at Stanford, as she investigates the neural circuits of depression and addiction—driven by the loss of her brother to a heroin overdose and her mother’s battle with grief and mental illness. As she searches for scientific explanations for their suffering, she is also drawn back to the evangelical faith of her youth, seeking answers that science alone can’t provide.
This book discussion is an opportunity to engage with NIH resources on topics of depression, substance use disorders, and neuroscience. The online forum is open until October 31. There will be two Zoom meeting: August 28 and October 23.
