PubMed Central logoOur On-Demand course NIH Public Access Policy for Librarians got a rebooted in December 2025 to reflect current NIH guidance. This 2-hour course offers practical, role-specific training for librarians who work with NIH-funded researchers. The content emphasizes how librarians actually encounter the policy in daily work: answering questions, checking compliance, and helping researchers navigate manuscript submission systems.

You will gain a clear understanding of:

  • What the NIH Public Access Policy requires
  • Why manuscript submission to PubMed Central is essential
  • How compliance is tracked — and where it often goes wrong
  • Where librarians can intervene effectively and confidently

With ongoing updates to NIH guidance and increasing expectations for compliance support, librarians are more central than ever to the research ecosystem. This course equips you with the knowledge, vocabulary, and confidence to support NIH-funded researchers effectively — and to position the library as a critical partner in the research process.

The course includes a downloadable resource list.
