Update on Kimberly Carlo’s work and her new position at Region 7

Posted by on August 3rd, 2026 Posted in: Blog

After working for Region 7 as a part-time consultant since February 2025, I have now become one of the Education and Outreach Coordinators for Region 7 of the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM) as of July 2026. During my time at the NNLM so far, I has contributed to monthly blog posts, visualized data for the Region 7 team, put on webinars based on data and research in academic libraries, collaborated with the National Center for Data Services, been a part of the Northeast Science Camp for Libraries committee, contributed to working groups, participated in conferences and scholarly publishing, presented to National Center for Data Services (NCDS) interns on my librarianship journey, and other duties as they have come up.

This year, I was awarded the IASSIST fellowship and attended the IASSIST conference, as well as the R/Medicine conference. I am continuously looking for new learning opportunities in the world of data science throughout my career.

Previously, I participated in the National Center for Data Services’ Data Internship in 2024 and have been interested in data librarianship and data curation ever since. During the internship, I presented my project at the North Atlantic Health Sciences Libraries conference and to the NNLM that same year. This internship was also my introduction to the Data Curation Network (DCN) and I have made an effort to stay involved, which included attending the DCN Specialized Curation for Code and Simulations-based Workshop. I have obtained my M.S. in Information and Library Science from the University at Buffalo. Some of my other professional interests include scholarly communication and archives.

Here are links to some of the courses at the NNLM that I have contributed to:

I am thrilled to be a permanent part of the Region 7. I am looking forward to continue my work at the NNLM on a full-time basis, as well as collaborating with colleagues at the NNLM and beyond.
