What’s Next for Region 7

Posted by on August 3rd, 2026 Posted in: Announcements, Blog

Region 7 concluded our fifth year of our five-year award cycle back at the end of April, so as many have asked, what’s next?

In late 2025/early 2026, R7 and our colleagues in the other regions had an opportunity to apply for an extension year through what is called an administrative supplement application for NIH/NLM awards. The good news: Our office received approval for continued operations through April 30, 2027!

During the first quarter of the extension year, R7 was hard at work teaching classes, connecting with partners and setting priorities for the rest of this bonus year. And we’re excited to announce what we’ve got coming up for you next.

Training

One of our major areas of work has always been bringing high-quality professional development training opportunities to our partners. That’s something that we pride ourselves on and that you can continue to count on during this extension year.

Upcoming R7 Classes:

And don’t forget to check out on-demand classes available any time to fit your schedule.

Evaluation

This extension year gives R7 an opportunity to look back on the previous five years and the work we’ve accomplished. We’re taking the time to evaluate programs like Focused Outreach, training, and funding.

We’re also interested in hearing from you about how working with R7 over the last five years has impacted your organization and the communities you serve. Did your organization receive funding from R7? Did you present or publish with us? Learn more about impact stories and how you can share.

Looking Ahead

We’re still awaiting the release of the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) that will permit us to apply for the next five-year cycle, which we hope will be soon.

If you have any questions about what has been shared here, please feel free to reach out to nnlm-region7@umassmed.edu.

R7 is thrilled that we can continue the work that you know and trust, and we look forward to seeing what we can accomplish over the next year.
