{"id":14294,"date":"2018-04-10T13:15:22","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T13:15:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/ner\/?p=14294"},"modified":"2018-04-10T13:16:55","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T13:16:55","slug":"recreational-marijuana-and-impact-on-driving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_7\/2018\/04\/10\/recreational-marijuana-and-impact-on-driving\/","title":{"rendered":"Recreational Marijuana and Impact on Driving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the day that the Massachusetts <a href=\"https:\/\/mass-cannabis-control.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cannabis Control Commission<\/a> began accepting applications for Registered Marijuana Dispensaries, UMass Amherst hosted a symposium entitled <em>Marijuana Legalized: Research, Practice and Policy Considerations.\u00a0<\/em>The School of Public Health and Health Sciences invited Darrin Grondel, Director of Washington (State) Traffic Safety Commission, to speak about the impacts of legalized recreational marijuana on driving. Washington State legalized recreational marijuana in 2014. Grondel&#8217;s message is that drugged driving is difficult to manage. Standard field sobriety tests are inadequate, and warrants for blood draws are time-consuming. Marijuana products are incredibly diverse, and the physiological consequences of using those products is not clearly understood. Social acceptance of driving-while-high is troubling.
