Citizen Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With summer break on the horizon, the question becomes what can I do with my kids that is entertaining and keeps their curiosity? \u00a0The answer is citizen science.<\/p>\n<p>This is where data collection and\/or analysis is distributed to members of the public &#8211; \u00a0kids, adults &#8211; collect the data.\u00a0 Or on rainy days, data, such as images of space,\u00a0are made available to the public and you can be the scientist and analyze it. \u00a0From a data perspective, citizen scientist information is useful for gathering observational data in many locations at the same time or for performing pattern analysis.<\/p>\n<p>There are many projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\/projects\/zookeeper\/galaxy-zoo\/\">Galaxy Zoo<\/a> a series of telescope images have been released and members of the public are asked to classify the galaxies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensciencealliance.org\/\">https:\/\/www.citizensciencealliance.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizenscience.gov\/\">CitizenScience.gov<\/a> There is a catalog various government based citizen science projects that volunteers can join \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizenscience.gov\/\">https:\/\/www.citizenscience.gov\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/citscibio.org\/\">Biomedical Citizen Science Hub<\/a>\u00a0is great if you are interested in biomedicine <a href=\"http:\/\/citscibio.org\/\">http:\/\/citscibio.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>At SciStarter\u00a0 there is a search tool where you can add your location say a city, a park, or the beach, and choose a topic such as nature, geography, physics, or\u00a0health &#8211; just about anything that might be of interest.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scistarter.com\/\">https:\/\/scistarter.com\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you want to stay local or are going on a trip you can still be a citizen scientist.
