As the NNLM R7 year draws to a close at the end of April, it\u2019s a good time to look back at all we\u2019ve accomplished since May, 2021.<\/p>\n
The R7 year in Graphic Medicine was a year of restarting old projects, expanding others and even creating something new.<\/p>\n
After having to take a pause on circulation during the 2020-2021 year, the R7 graphic medicine book club kits started circulating again in August 2021 and by the end of the program year seven kits will have gone out to partners.<\/p>\n
This year we also introduced a brand-new kit focused on familial substance use featuring Hey, Kiddo<\/em> by Jarrett J. Krosoczka<\/a>.<\/p>\n From the publisher: \u201cHey, Kiddo<\/em> is a profoundly important memoir about growing up in a family as it grapples with addiction, finding the people who help get you through, and the art that helps you survive.\u201d<\/p>\n Book club kits are great for organizations with experience with graphic medicine and those that just want to try it out. Learn more and request a kit today<\/a>.<\/p>\n Region 7 has a strong graphic medicine community and we\u2019re excited to continue to be a part of that and to expand the work we do with partners through the NNLM R7 Graphic Medicine Community of Interest (COI).<\/p>\n In October, partners were invited to give feedback on a graphic medicine interest survey<\/a> looking at potential projects and ways for everyone to collaborate. We heard from fourteen partners who expressed interest in training opportunities, resource sharing and more.<\/p>\n In February, the Region 7 Graphic Medicine COI met for the first time to discuss projects, including two exciting projects coming up in Year 2. We had twelve people attend the kick-off meeting. The COI will be meeting quarterly and smaller subgroups are meeting to work on projects. If you\u2019re interested in joining or want more information email Sarah Levin-Lederer<\/a>.<\/p>\n COI member Alice Stokes (Dana Library, University of Vermont)<\/a> was also profiled in a Member Spotlight blog post in March. Alice talked about her work with graphic medicine and R7, as well as her work with the R7 hospital librarians group.<\/p>\n In March, R7 virtually welcomed two University of Kentucky students from the School of Information Sciences for a weeklong intensive internship focused on graphic medicine. Raeshelle Cooke and Lauren Laumas spent their spring break learning about graphic medicine, and creating two new discussion guides for Tangles<\/em> by Sarah Leavitt<\/a> and Lighter Than My Shadow <\/em>by Katie Green<\/a>. They also created short videos to share resources about finding graphic medicine titles and best practices for creating discussion guides.<\/p>\n Check out the discussion guides and videos<\/a> they created.<\/p>\n Under Construction! A subgroup of the COI is working on a graphic medicine resource guide for nnlm.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n Save the Date!
