When I exhibit at public health conferences, a lot of people know PubMed and MedlinePlus, but don\u2019t know the other resources and services available from NLM and NNLM. However, some people see library in our name and either say, \u201cI love libraries\u201d (we do too!) or \u201cWell, we don\u2019t work with libraries\/we\u2019re not a library\u201d (that\u2019s ok).<\/p>\n<p>NLM and NNLM resources and services are for any organization that works in health information, health information outreach and health information programming. Below are some of the FREE resources and services that we think are especially useful for our public health partners.<\/p>\n<h2>National Library of Medicine (NLM)<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/\">National Library of Medicine<\/a> is one of the 27 institutes of the NIH with a physical library located on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. NLM also creates and maintains a wide variety of online health information resources that range from highly specialized to resources for the general public.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/\">PubMed<\/a>-36 million citations for biomedical literature. Doing a literature review for research or a grant? Start here.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/\">MedlinePlus<\/a>-Health information in plain language for patients, family, friends and the general public.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/spanish\/\">MedlinePlus en espa\u00f1ol<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/hmd\/index.html\">History of Medicine Division<\/a>-Bringing the library\u2019s historical collection of photographs, videos, manuscripts and more online. Resources from HMD can help put modern medicine in context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM)<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/\">Network of the National Library of Medicine<\/a> is the regionally responsive outreach arm of NLM with seven regions, and national offices and centers that support the work of the network including training, evaluation and more.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\">Training schedule<\/a> offering asynchronous, on-demand and live webinars to fit your needs including some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/schedule?combine=&amp;ce_categories_121%5B%5D=1&amp;ce_categories_121%5B%5D=2&amp;class_format_133=All\">offering free CHES CEs<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\">Resource Guides<\/a> with information and links on topics including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/public-health-resources\">Public Health<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/emergency-and-disaster-resources\">Emergency Preparedness<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/environmental-health-and-justice-1\">Environmental Health and Justice<\/a>, and more.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/about\/offices\/nphco\">National Public Health Coordination Office<\/a> (NPHCO) provides access to evidence-based public health resources including journals, e-books, and databases through the Public Health Digital Library.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>NNLM Region 7<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17658\" src=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_7\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/10\/nnlm_map_white_on_blue_7-300x276.png\" alt=\"Map of New England and New York with all states in blue and a large white number seven overlaid\" width=\"300\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_7\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/10\/nnlm_map_white_on_blue_7-300x276.png 300w, https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_7\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/10\/nnlm_map_white_on_blue_7-768x707.png 768w, https:\/\/news.nnlm.gov\/region_7\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2023\/10\/nnlm_map_white_on_blue_7.png 803w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/about\/regions\/region7\">NNLM R7<\/a>\u2019s offices are located at the UMass Chan Medical School, Lamar Soutter Library (Worcester, MA) and serves New England and New York.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/funding\/rfa?field_award_category_value=All&amp;field_rfa_status_value=All&amp;field_funding_source_target_id%5B61%5D=61\">Funding<\/a>-R7 offers several funding categories to support health information and bridge the digital divide.<\/li>\n<li>Regionally responsive trainings including training for partner organizations and trainings that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/training\/class-catalog\/region-7-presents\">highlight regional experts<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/region-7-informational-guide\">Priority Areas<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/region-7-communities-interest\">Communities of Interest<\/a> allow R7 to engage with partners around topics that matter to them including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/region-7-graphic-medicine-0\">Graphic Medicine<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/region-7-substance-use-disorder-0\">Substance Use Disorder<\/a>, Rural Health and more.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nnlm.gov\/guides\/region-7-focused-outreach\">Focused Outreach<\/a> allows R7 to connect with partners in two geographic areas a year to learn more about the health needs and health information seeking behaviors of their communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Find R7 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/nnlmregion7\/\">Facebook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/network-of-the-national-library-of-medicine-nnlm-region-7\/\">LinkedIn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Stay up to date with R7 by <a href=\"https:\/\/lp.constantcontactpages.com\/su\/PL1FYmg\/NNLMRegion7\">subscribing to our newsletter<\/a> for funding announcements, class announcements, blog posts and more delivered to your inbox weekly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fall is public health conference season.
