NNLM SCR has an exciting announcement! Our very own Debbie Montenegro, Consumer Health Coordinator, has been selected by the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to serve as a NASA Solar System Ambassador in our region for 2019. The program is a nation-wide public engagement effort. Ambassadors are selected once a year, based on a rigorous set of criteria and submitted proposals for public outreach activities. As NASA-appointed expert volunteers, the Ambassadors participate in training and gain access to scientific briefings conducted by mission scientists and engineers that educate and update on NASA’s latest missions, milestones, and recent discoveries.
NASA Solar System Ambassadors across the nation communicate the science and share the excitement of NASA’s space exploration missions and discoveries to their communities. As experts who are passionate and knowledgeable about space exploration education, each has agreed to conduct a minimum of four community events within their first year of service. These can include speaking engagements, workshops, webinars, and other educational activities for the general public and academic institutions.
Debbie has presented on astronaut health resources at several conferences in our five-state region. She has big plans for 2019, including conference presentations she just conducted last week at the Space Center in Houston and another upcoming presentation at the Kennedy Space Center this summer. Stay tuned!
