TIME: 12:00N – 1:30PM
This is an exciting opportunity for health sciences librarians to learn what major online publishers are doing to ensure a smooth transition.
Calendar year 2014 ushers in Meaningful Use (MU) Stage 2 – advanced clinical processes for hospitals utilizing certified electronic health record systems (EHRs). Publishers (and EHR vendors) are putting appropriate platforms in place for clinical decision support resources so that EHRs certified for MU Stage 2 and associated hospitals can complete CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) attestation requirements for the transmission of patient-specific information. EHR technology that has been certified for the 2014 Edition standards/certification criteria will have been tested for enhanced CQM-related capabilities which means that eligible hospitals will be required to report using the new 2014 CQM criteria regardless of whether they are participating in Stage 1 or Stage 2 of MU Incentive Programs. The MU Stage 2 Core Criterion Number 5’s objective is to, “use clinical decision support to improve performance on high priority health conditions” via the HL7 Version 3 Standard should interest librarians, because the criterion requires clinical users of EHRs to functionally interact with diagnostic and therapeutic reference resources in a patient specific, context-aware manner.
