Pilot Project: Join our Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS) Facebook Group

Posted by on March 10th, 2017 Posted in: Consumer Health, Continuing Education

The NNLM Southeastern/Atlantic Region (SEA) is piloting a new Consumer Health Information Specialists Facebook group and you’re invited to join!

If you’re a member of the Southeastern/Atlantic region with a passion in Consumer Health Information, this group is for you. You’ll be able to connect with like-minded health information professionals.

Working on your Medical Library Association (MLA) Consumer Health Information Specialization (CHIS)?

Great news! If you’re currently taking classes to earn MLA CHIS Level 1 or 2, the NNLM SEA has an offer exclusively for its members. Join our new Facebook group and we’ll pay the CHIS application fee.

  • You must be a member of the NNLM SEA Region.
  • Complete the courses needed to earn either MLA CHIS Level 1 or Level II.
  • Download and complete the form available from the MLA CHIS website.
  • Send your completed application to SEACHISsubmission@hshsl.umaryland.edu.
  • NNLM SEA will submit your application to MLA and take care of your application fee. ($55 for members and $75 for non-members.)

The offer will apply whether or not you are a member of MLA or not.

Already have MLA CHIS Level 1 or 2?

  • We encourage you to join our new Facebook Group!
  • Your insights and contributions to Consumer Health are greatly appreciated as members share, interact and encourage each other.

Terri Ottosen and Nancy Patterson, Outreach and Education Coordinators, will facilitate and administer the group on Facebook and will add people that request to join, provided you are earning or have earned your CHIS certification.

We’re excited about our new Facebook group and hope you’ll join and make it a great way to connect with others in the Region who are interested in consumer health and share information and share items of interest with the group. We envision the group page as a place to comment on and “like” posts, discuss issues with providing consumer health services, coordinate with others, and collaborate to share projects and ideas.

This pilot project is an experiment, so we will seek your feedback to improve and modify the project as we go along. We hope this group will serve as a “meeting place” for those interested in and passionate about consumer health. We also hope this project allows for better sharing and collaboration throughout the Region, as well as to promote partnerships and comradery amongst those in the group.
