Register for Advancing Accessible Health Information for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (DDBHH) Communities

Posted by on September 14th, 2026 Posted in: Webinars and Courses

Join NNLM Region 6 on Tuesday, October 6 at 11am PT/noon MT/1pm CT/2pm ET for a webinar on improving organizational health literacy for people who are Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard of hearing (DDBHH). They hosting guest speakers from the Center for Deaf Health Excellence at Gallaudet University. CHES, CNE, and MLA continuing education credit will be available.
The guest speakers, Erika Bergeron and Dr. Poorna Kushalnagar, will share research into the social determinants of health specific to the DDBHH community, as well as organizational practices that make health information easier for DDBHH patients to find, understand, and use. This presentation reframes health literacy as an organizational and structural responsibility, a matter of how health systems are designed, rather than a set of skills DDBHH people do or do not have.
The presentation will include time for audience questions. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be provided. Registration and additional information can be found on the class page. Please reach out to Region 6 with any questions you may have.
