Outreach and Engagement Librarian (Open Rank)

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center (HSLIC) seeks a collaborative and enthusiastic individual who can communicate across cultures, build collaborative partnerships, and work as a team member in a fast-paced organization to improve the health of New Mexicans through evidence-based information expertise. HSLIC is New Mexico’s only publicly accessible academic health sciences library, and, as such, it has a responsibility to our community to work to improve the availability, accessibility, and understanding of health information needs throughout our state. HSLIC has a long history of providing outreach across our state, including to our 24 federally recognized Native Nations. This position will take a leadership role in revitalizing and strengthening our efforts, including promoting and growing HSLIC’s Native Health Database https://nativehealthdatabase.net/ , an important resource for Native American health information. To build a sustainable community engagement and outreach program, this individual will work collaboratively with UNM Health Sciences Center faculty and staff, HSLIC faculty and staff, and community partners. In-person relationships remain a cornerstone of community engagement in New Mexico, and thus, this position will entail periodic travel. This is a full-time, benefits eligible faculty position with a primary appointment in HSLIC. The UNM provides a diversified package of benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Appointment is posted as open rank, to be determined based on qualifications. Salary range: $61,380-$75,210.

Responsibilities:

Develops and enacts a community engagement and outreach plan for HSLIC by building upon established programming and partnerships, assessing and evaluating needs and opportunities, and seeking out new collaborations. Develops long-term external strategic partnerships with community partners, including with public and tribal libraries and other relevant community leaders. Collaborates with Health Sciences Center and HSLIC faculty, staff, preceptors, and others to address the health information needs of strategically important/underserved groups in the state. Plans and coordinates trainings, conferences, and events for identified populations, including virtual and in person events. Provides instruction in the use of clinical and consumer health education resources to health professionals and community members. May produce and staff exhibits at local health fairs and professional conferences. Contributes to HSLIC’s efforts to partner with Native Nations to archive and disseminate health information through ethical, community-led collections in the Native Health Database. Seeks funding and partnerships to build, improve, and extend community engagement and outreach programs; develops and executes grant-based special projects. Participates as an active and collaborative member of the Research, Education and Clinical Information Division in reference and literature search support, division projects, and trainings and workshops at HSLIC. Participates in scholarship/research, committee service, and strategic planning activities

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum:

• Graduate degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited institution.
• Applicant must be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Excellent communication skills as demonstrated in required writing sample.

Preferred:

• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
• Experience with project coordination, writing and assessment.
• Experience providing reference and searching support, including NLM products such as PubMed.
• Experience training/teaching adult learners.
• Experience in outreach activities.
