Consumer Health Minute: Air and Water Quality

The air we breath and the water we drink can impact our health. How can you learn about your air and water quality? Here are resources you and your library can offer.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has a link to find the water reports in your area. A Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) should be made available to you each year around July 1. This is a report that your water supplier should be providing you with information about where your drinking water is coming from and the about the quality of your water. Learn more about the Consumer Confidence Report including a link to a Quick Reference guide on the EPA website.

Another environmental health concern your community may have is regarding air quality. Here are two resources to consider.

AirNow app imageAirNow is a tool from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This resource help you learn what the air quality is in your location. More information is also available about how air quality can affect health. AirNow is also available as an app.

 

The American Lung Association has a State of the Air webpage that includes information such as annual report cards for all cities and counties on ozone and particle pollution. Additionally, you’ll find how poor air quality impacts health and some ways to keep yourself and others to take action for health.
