As the digital age continues to reshape how we find and use health information, the role of libraries and trusted health organizations has never been more critical. At NNLM Region 5, we are committed to ensuring that communities across our region have equitable access to reliable, evidence-based health information.

The Challenges We Face

From health misinformation spreading online to digital literacy barriers, people often struggle to find and interpret credible health resources. Additionally, disparities in internet access and technology can leave some communities behind, making it even more important to provide accessible, culturally relevant information.

Innovation and Solutions

Looking ahead, we see several opportunities to bridge these gaps:

  • Strengthening Digital Literacy – We continue to offer training programs that help individuals and organizations navigate trustworthy health resources, including MedlinePlus and PubMed.
  • Expanding Outreach Through Technology – From telehealth partnerships to AI-driven tools, emerging technology presents new ways to connect people with health information.
  • Supporting Community-Based Initiatives – By funding libraries, nonprofits, and health-related organizations, we empower local leaders to share health information in ways that resonate with their communities.

Your Role in the Future

Whether you’re a librarian, healthcare worker, educator, or community advocate, you play a crucial role in shaping the future of health information access. We invite you to join us in this mission—connect with NNLM Region 5, apply for funding opportunities, or attend one of our free upcoming classes or webinars.

Together, we can ensure that everyone—regardless of location, background, or resources—has access to the health information they need to make informed decisions.

What are your thoughts on the future of health information access? Let’s continue the conversation!
