Health Equity Leaders in the News

Posted by on August 23rd, 2023 Posted in: Bio-Medical Professionals, Health Equity

Health equity leaders from two states served by Region 5 were featured prominently in the health news this week. We’re proud to republish their accomplishments and draw attention to the programs they are a part of.

KFF Health News published this profile of Linda Noneo, a community health representative in Nevada serving members of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone tribe. According to this article, over 1,600 individuals serve federally recognized tribes through the Community Health Representative program – an essential part of the network of community health workers addressing health disparities nationwide.

STAT featured the groundbreaking career of Benjamin Young, a Native Hawaiian who helped build the ‘Imi Ho‘ola program at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. This program has been instrumental in creating a diverse medical education program that reflects the communities its graduates serve.

If you work in Region 5 and would like to feature accomplishments from your organization or professional field on this blog, please email us anytime at nnlm@uw.edu. We’d love to help you spread the word!
