NLM Video Contest Winners Announced

Winners have been announced in the National Library of Medicine’s video contest, “NLM & You.” Participants were asked to submit a video showing how an NLM product or service helped them. Winners were announced in the NLM Technical Bulletin on May 16, 2011.

Grand prize winner – James and the Peanut Allergy

Producer: University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, in collaboration with the Biomedical Informatics Department. This video tells the story of 5th grader James using MedlinePlus to find information about his peanut allergy and make a report to his class.

First runner up – The Fastest Librarian in the West

Producer: Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center, University of New Mexico. A librarian on horseback learns about snakebite with PubMed.

Second runner up – MedlinePlus: Making a Difference Every Day

Producer: Schusterman Library, University of Oklahoma – Tulsa. A family uses MedlinePlus to help them understand more about a relative’s recovery after a bad motorcycle accident.

The videos are being captioned and will soon be embedded in the NLM 175th Anniversary site. The public is invited to use these videos to promote the NLM “information innovation” for better health.
