Hot Topics In Practice: Responding To The Whooping Cough Epidemic In Washington State, July 31st at noon Pacific

Posted by on July 6th, 2012 Posted in: News From NNLM PNR, Training & Education

The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (NWCPHP) is hosting its monthly Hot Topics in Practice webcast, with the July topic being “Responding To The Whooping Cough Epidemic In Washington State.”  Leading the everyday tasks of a public health agency is important, but leadership during an epidemic is essential.  In April 2012 the Washington State Department of Health declared a whooping cough epidemic.  As of June 16 there were 2,647 reported cases throughout the state and the numbers could increase by the end of the year.  In the July Hot Topics a panel of public health leaders still in the midst of the outbreak will share their perspectives on declaring and responding to the epidemic.

Learner Objectives:

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  • Understand the incidence and distribution of whooping cough in Washington State.
  • Describe the decision-making process for declaring an epidemic
  • Understand methods for working collaboratively with partner agencies when declaring and responding to a whooping cough epidemic
  • Recognize strategies for working with the media during an epidemic

For more information and to register, visit the NWCPHP web site: http://www.nwcphp.org/training/hot-topics/2012-hot-topics/pertussis

The Hot Topics webcasts are recorded and archived for viewing if you are unable to attend the live session: http://www.nwcphp.org/training/hot-topics/archives
