Region 6 of the Network of the National Library of Medicine is pleased to announce that the Digital Access Award of up to $20,000 goes to Literacy Minnesota. From October 2021 through April 2022, Eric Nesheim and Tom Cytron-Hysom will use their expertise to develop a Digital Literacy Skills for Telehealth module for the Northstar Digital Literacy. Digital literacy is a critical skillset needed to ensure everyone has access to quality health care. Providing devices and internet service alone are not enough ā people need digital skills in order to effectively gain digital access. Northstar will identify standards and create an assessment tool to gauge individuals’ digital literacy skills that are needed for successful telehealth participation. The open-access module will be made available publicly on the Northstar system. More than 5 million Northstar assessments have been taken since its 2012 launch. When Northstar adds digital health modules, digital inclusion and greater digital health care access is made possible for millions of Americans, leading to improved health equity across the United States.
