Resources Regarding Environmental Disaster and Response

With the recent train derailment and subsequent environmental impact in and near East Palestine OH, now is a good time to review a few resources regarding such disasters.

National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is expanding and accelerating its contributions to scientific knowledge of human health and the environment, and to the health and well-being of people everywhere. NIEHS provides the following databases & galleries as resources that provide useful information

National Toxicology Program
In the course of our daily lives, human beings are exposed to many substances. Most of these chemical and physical agents are harmless at everyday doses, while others have the potential to cause adverse health effects. The mission of the National Toxicology Program (NTP) is to partner to build knowledge and advance toxicological sciences to protect and promote human health.

Environmental Health Perspectives
Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) is a monthly journal of environmental health research and news published with support from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

Disaster Research Response (DR2) Program
The DR2 Program provides training, funding, and a Resources Portal of tools to empower human health research in response to disasters and public health emergencies.

United States Environmental Protection Agency
The mission of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is to protect human health and the environment.

Ohio Emergency Management Agency
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency is the state’s central point of coordination for response to and recovery from disasters. When not in a response or recovery mode, our focus is to ensure that Ohio and its citizens are prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster and to lead mitigation efforts against the effects of future disasters.

Department of Transportation / Federal Railroad Administration
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) was created by the Department of Transportation Act of 1966. It is one of ten agencies within the U.S. Department of Transportation concerned with intermodal transportation.

The FRA eLibrary contains all the documents that are found throughout the FRA Public Website. Multiple pages on the website may link to the same eLibrary item based on its set of metatdata.

She is the lead for the Partner Outreach Program (POP), Network membership and user accounts, the Data Reporting System (DRS), and the Region 6 website. She has been with the Network since 2005. In addition to being a health sciences librarian, Jacqueline maintains her license as a registered nurse. She works from her home office in Chicago.
