National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening our communities. Celebrate each day with the themes below!

Monday, April 7: Recognize Health Literacy on Right to Read Day
Libraries play a critical role in providing free access to trusted health resources, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their well-being. The American Library Association (ALA) kicks off National Library Week by releasing its State of America’s Libraries Report.

Tuesday, April 8: Celebrate Library Workers as Health Information Navigators
On National Library Workers Day, we honor library staff who help patrons find credible health information, connect with community health resources, and navigate complex medical topics. Librarians play a vital role in health literacy by curating evidence-based resources from organizations like the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

To show appreciation for library workers and the work they do throughout the year, library users are invited to Submit at Star by providing a testimonial about a favorite library employee. Check out these 10 Ways to Celebrate National Library Workers Day.

Wednesday, April 9: Bring Health Information to Your Community
On National Library Outreach Day, ensure that health information reaches people where they are—whether through bookmobiles, pop-up library events, or digital literacy programs. Partner with your public health department or a local community or faith-based group to bring health and wellness programs and expert speakers to your library.

Thursday, April 10: Take Action for Digital Health Information Access
Libraries serve as trusted spaces where individuals can find authoritative health resources on wellness and medical topics. Help patrons check out a laptop or use a public computer to search MedlinePlus.gov for free reliable, and easy to understand health information and medical information.
