And the 2023 theme is “Aging Unbound” focused on exploring diverse aging experiences and discussing how communities can combat stereotypes.

The American population is aging and as we age, our health needs change too. The Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) 2021 Profile of Older Americans noted that 17% of the population was over 65 and that that number was expected to grow to 22% by 2040. Two R7 states, Vermont and Maine, were in the top four states with the highest percentage of folks 65+.

In his statement proclaiming May, 2023 as the 60th Older Americans Month, President Biden wrote, “Older Americans are the pillars of our community, and we owe it to them to value their wisdom, celebrate their contributions, and champion their well-being.”
