Solo Chat Debrief on MLA Annual Meeting

Solo hospital librarians met on Thu, May 23 to debrief the Medical Library Annual Meeting. Seven librarians shared their takeaways from attending the conference in-person. One librarian presented his poster for the group. Others shared links to related resources. I shared my experiences with virtual attendance.

Here are some of the presentations that were discussed:

  • Paper: Strength in Numbers: Using Data on Library Literature Searches to Measure Impact on Evidence-Based Patient Care and Hospital Policy/Procedure Changes. Michelle Lieggi, Dignity Health, Lindsey Gillespie, Dignity Health. If you attended the conference, you should have access to the slides through Pheedloop.
  • Paper: Integration of Librarians into MyChart. Elizabeth Frakes and Shawn Steidinger from Eccles Health Sciences Library at University of Utah. This content was delivered in-person and recording/slides are available through Pheedloop. The recording gives a shout-out to Adela Justice, so you can check with her about MyChart as well.
  • Poster: Stronger Together, Sharing Knowledge: Collaborative Abstract Writing Workshops, Andrea Harrow, University of Southern California. Here is a libguide associated with this project.
  • Poster: Building an ILL Automation Workflow: A Small Hospital Library Using Microsoft Forms and Power Automate, Jonathan Ratliff, Samaritan Health Services. The poster is available here (outside of the conference software). Jonathan presented the poster during our meeting.
  • Technology Showcase: These showcases were not recorded, but there is a NLM Office Hours on Dataset Catalog.

This is just a sample of what we discussed, and a fraction of what was offered at MLA. This meeting was a great opportunity for librarians who could not afford to attend the conference (in-person or virtually) to hear from their colleagues about sessions relevant to the work of solo hospital librarians.

At the end of the Solo Chat, those who act as editors for the Journal of Hospital Librarianship put out a call for submissions. Check out the end of the recording for those calls.
