Resources to Support NIH Public Access Policy Implementation

Posted by on August 28th, 2008 Posted in: News from NLM

During this first year of NIH Public Access Policy implementation, NIH-funded authors have a lot of questions about how to comply with the new rules. Here are a few resources to check for answers.

Public Access Policy Frequently Asked Questions
This page, directly from NIH, answers specific questions about the scope of the policy and how to submit information to PubMed Central and NIH.

PMID to PMCID Converter
Citations for certain papers referenced in NIH applications, proposals, and progress reports must include PubMed Central Identification numbers (PMCIDs). This conversion utility retrieves PMCID numbers for papers with known PubMed Identification Numbers (PMIDs).

Open Access Directory: Publisher Policies on NIH-Funded Authors
This resource was featured in an Association of Research Libraries newsletter last week. It is a wiki for information about publishers’ practices relating to the NIH Public Access Policy. This wiki is maintained by “the open access community at large.” Anyone can register and contribute content.
