Do you know that May 28th is Menstrual Hygiene Day?

Why is that?

To increase awareness and action towards a common goal: a #PeriodFriendlyWorld. A world where the taboos and stigma surrounding menstruation are history. Where everyone has access to quality menstrual products, period education and period-friendly toilets. But Menstrual Hygiene Day is more than an awareness day. Today, more and more of us are also working towards a #PeriodFriendlyWorld beyond 28 May. ~ menstrualhygieneday.org

Including NNLM?

Yes. With the help of the Ohio State Advisory Group, NNLM Region 6 partnered with Aunt Flow to build a free and accessible microsite – knowyourflow.info.

What will you find?

MedlinePlus logoAt knowyourflow.info, you will discover colorful, engaging, and factual resources designed by Aunt Flow to catch people’s attention and to promote understanding of two natural, biological human experiences – menstruation and menopause. The health and wellness information were sourced from MedlinePlus, a reliable, easy to understand, and free of advertising website sponsored by the National Library of Medicine, the largest biomedical library in the world.

What to do next?

Download the materials to print as handouts or stickers or to share digitally on social media sites. Then directly contact Aunt Flow to learn how your library or organization can advance #PeriodFriendlyWorld by offering free menstrual products starting in your own bathrooms. Finally, add your affiliation to the Flow Site map. Whether you are twelve or sixty, female or male, you know someone who menstruates. Support them with knowyourflow.info.

Want to learn more?

NNLM spotlighted knowyourflow.info in a webinar hosted Wednesday, May 22nd. If you registered and were unable to attend the live event, or you didn’t even know about the webinar, you can watch the recording on the NNLM YouTube channel.
