Make more desserts. I love a complicated baking project, and while my flavors and techniques are strong, I think that an extra hour would really help my decoration skills.
The Boston Children’s Medical Library has three librarians, and our patrons are anyone who works for the hospital – clinical and non-clinical, from any department or satellite location. We maintain digital and print collections, teach classes on databases and tools, run literature searches, assist during in-person rounds, coauthor systematic reviews, and more! It’s rewarding to work with colleagues who are so focused on innovation and excellence, and who tend to really value our skills and contributions – especially when we’re saving them time.
We’re moving locations next summer, so I’m working on assessing our print collection to figure out what will move with us. It’s part deaccession plan, part anticipating (and hopefully alleviating) the unavoidable emotional reactions of colleagues around the hospital.
DOCLINE! It’s invaluable to be part of such a responsive and generous network of libraries. Our patrons think it’s magic when we can get them rare and hard-to-fine articles from other institutions, and it definitely helps our reputation that we can almost always get them what they are asking for.
I love living in Boston because you’re under two hours from both the mountains and the beach! There’s always something beautiful to go see when you want to get out of the city.
NNLM is cleaning up the Library Groups in DOCLINE. We need to identify defunct groups and assign contact information to existing groups. Please contact Margot Malachowski (email below) with questions, concerns, and tidbits of information. Thanks for helping us!
