On Demand Classes for Research Data Management

In the first half of 2022, we hosted a series of webinars focused on the new NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy going into effect January 25, 2023. These webinars, hosted by both practitioners and NLM & NIH staff, explored the new policy requirements in detail by presenting information on how to work on internal outreach, policy, education, and infrastructure to prepare for the policy changes.

These webinars were recorded, and the NNLM Training Office built an On Demand class for anyone to review these materials at their own pace for MLA CE credits (it also qualifies for the MLA Data Services Specialization). You can register to take this on demand class here:

Additionally, four revised Research Data Management On-Demand classes were recently launched! These four classes form the backbone of the Data Services Specialization and address key competencies for you to get started in Data Management. Each class has been revised based on feedback and to include the most current information. Work on them at your own pace and earn 4 CE credits from the Medical Library Association for each.

Open Science & Data Science: What is open science, and how does it differ from data science and research data management? How can library staff support data science in their own work? Take this class to start your data journey.

Data Curation & Documentation: Learn about file naming conventions, data types, and best practices for documentation in this class that includes a practice with a case study.

Data Sharing & Publishing: What are the FAIR data principles, and how do they relate to research reproducibility? In this class, you’ll discuss the benefits and challenge of open data in biomedical research and learn more about data sharing, citations, and journals.

Data Security, Storage, & Preservation: This class breaks down the basics for keeping data safe, secure, and available for the long-term. Walk away feeling more confident about HIPAA, licensing, and other legal concerns for datasets!

Register for one or all of these on-demand classes by visiting:

Once you have completed all requirements for the Level One Data Services Specialization, apply to NNLM to sponsor your DSS Application Fee.
