As Year Two comes to a close, Region 7 wants to update you on activities designed to meet the needs of hospital librarians.
Since May 2022, Region 7 hosted two webinars aimed at hospital librarians. The webinars were offered nationally. According to registration records, 32 registrants for ClinicalTrials.gov for Librarians were from Region 7, as were 68 registrants for History of the Rochester Study: Literature Discussion. We identified the Rochester Study topic by watching discussions on the Medical Library Association’s Hospital Libraries Caucus listserv. Librarians expressed curiosity about the Rochester Study, and we hoped to provide an opportunity to learn about this historic research. During the webinar, the chat discussion was lively, creating 16 pages of commentary that was saved and distributed to the registrants and on the Hospital Libraries Caucus listserv. We will share our ideas for Year Three in the annual Hospital Libraries Advisory Group (HLAG) virtual meeting.
Check our newly released podcast on Region 7 hospital librarians! The podcast expands on blog interviews with Jill Tarabula (NY) Chloe Rotman (MA), Tim Kenny (ME), and Anne Romano (CT).
Locate the podcast on this listing of NNLM Discovery podcasts.
The Medical Library Association is discontinuing the Disaster Information Specialization (DIS), but we are well aware that disaster preparedness is a critical task for hospital librarians. We are curious to hear about your backup options if your hospital loses access to collections due to natural disasters or cyber attacks.
We know that solo hospital librarians often lack coverage when they take personal time. While Region 7 cannot provide a solution to this problem, we can provide a forum for discussion. Please join us for our annual virtual meeting!
Register here for our annual Hospital Libraries Advisory Group meeting. We will share what we are learning from Region 7, and talk about our training ideas. We will discuss the options for hospital librarians who need backup for natural disasters, cyber attacks, or during extended absences. This is an opportunity for you to connect with other hospital librarians in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
