Upcoming Webinar on Stigma, Trauma and People Who Use Drugs

NNLM’s Stigma, Trauma and People Who Use Drugs is a 2-part webinar (April 13 and April 20, 2023) that explores the historical roots of stigma towards people who use drugs including the role of targeted criminalization and the media, and research science.  Stigma and trauma are defined, and we’ll discuss why trauma matters, and what are effective strategies for addressing stigma towards individuals and organizations.

This training is for individuals and organizations currently helping people who use drugs or interested in doing so in the future.

Register for each session separately. Please note that login details are different for each session.

Session 1 Agenda:

• Define stigma and its impact on people who use drugs
• Science behind stigma
• History of drug criminalization in America

Objectives:

• Discuss information presented by experts from various health and library related fields on varying topics

• Evaluate new methods and programs to apply new knowledge to their own practice.

Session 2 Agenda

Recap previous sessions
• Defining trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs)
• Impact of stigma, traumatic experiences, racial discrimination, and the criminal justice system on people who use drugs
• Strategies to reduce stigma and trauma for people who use drugs

Objectives:

• Discuss information presented by experts from various health and library related fields on varying topics

• Evaluate new methods and programs to apply new knowledge to their own practice.
