What is your title and brief job description?

Health Literacy Librarian, my focus is on outreach and education.

Other than COVID, what medical/health topic is on your mind?

I have been thinking about issues that have a social slant and related to social justice, so social determinants of health, working with homeless individuals, maternal health disparities, trauma informed care, behavioral health and suicide, and even child abuse and gun violence has also crossed my mind.

What advice would you give others who are interested in doing health outreach work in their communities?

Be sure to identify an issue that is identified by the community you hope to serve. What we see as a concern could be very different from what the community identifies as a concern. The community members are the experts and we should be acting as a support to them in hopes of getting their needs met.

Unrelated to health librarianship, what is your favorite indulgence?

Traveling. A big part of traveling is indulging in different foods, which I am happy to take part in. Sweet, salty rich, I’ll try just about anything at least once.

What is your title and brief job description?

Outreach and Education Librarian. I am primarily responsible for coordinating regional outreach and education, namely biomedical/health information training and education programs.  I also serve as the Communications Specialist for the region, managing regional engagement via social media.

Other than COVID, what medical/health topic is on your mind?

Self care and mental health

What advice would you give others who are interested in doing health outreach work in their communities?

Reach out! To organizations or individuals involved in health work in the community, make the connection so that you can form partnerships to do the work. There are so many organizations involved in health outreach, you are bound to find one or more to connect with.

Unrelated to health librarianship, what is your favorite indulgence?

I love to visit new places, locally, nationally or internationally. I’m also a bit of a tv junkie, I watch a wide variety of shows including drama, comedy, sci-fi/fantasy, home improvement, cooking and more!
