Delivering Your Content: PHDL Set-Up

Here are some details and links your IT folks can use to update your Public Health Digital Library to retrieve a resource list from a host site.  This allows for one point of updating the resource list (from our office) so that users will have the latest list of resources.  It’s a real improvement over the time it takes to update a static html page. The system will also deliver more information about the journals and book titles.

This technology was developed by your IT colleagues in West Virginia.

Two guides are available to help set up this version of the PHDL:

• PHDL Turnkey Guide to do an easy install of the page and its accompanying files and folders.

• • A more extensive Digital Library Integrator’s Guide will help you with making customizations to the resources display as well as the interface of your PHDL.

The structure and back end of the page allows for maintaining a local data file separate from the html page. If you are maintaining a static html page for the digital library, the resource list is available as an excel file . Please send us an email if you need these formats.

Really, you’ll want to work towards adapting the remote data set-up: our new PHDs have found installing the digital library pages to be straightforward. Please let us know about your department’s move to this resource delivery system for the PHDL.  The time to install and set up this structure is minimal compared to the time it will take to update your resources on a static PHDL page.

Note that your PHDL page has a PubMed link set to identify content:  for departments who have been with the program for several years, you may have a department-specific link. Your department should change this link so that it points to the PHDL content with the a generic PHDL icon.  That URL is https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?holding=phdlnphco are phasing out department-specific links in PubMed and these will not be current. Please move to using the PHDL-specific icon and the new URL to identify your PHDL articles!
