Accepting Applications: NNLM Region 1 2022-2023 Project Awards

The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 1 Regional Medical Library invites applications for projects and activities that will occur May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023.

The mission of the NNLM is to advance the progress of medicine, improve public health by providing U.S. health professionals with equal access to biomedical information, and improve individuals’ access to information to enable them to make informed decisions about their health. Under a cooperative agreement with the National Library of Medicine (NLM), the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL) serves as the Regional Medical Library for Region 1.

  • Period of Performance: May 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023
  • Application Due Date: March 28, 2022 4:00 PM ET
  • Refer to the NNLM Proposal Writing Toolkit to help you develop your proposal.
  • Please allow extra time to familiarize yourself with the NNLM Online Application System and system requirements before submitting an application.
  • Your NNLM Account MUST be tied to the correct Institutional Organization in order to apply for a project award.
  • Academic Institutions: Applicants must consult with your Sponsored Programs Office prior to applying for any project award. If your Sponsored Programs Office insists on submitting an application, they must create an NNLM Account prior to the submission deadline.

Please read the description/requirements of the award and the evaluation criteria. Some awards are eligible for Indirect Costs (IDC) or Facilities and Administration (F&A), and all funds must be spent by April 30, 2023.

  • Health Information Outreach Award: ($20,000/award). Enable organizations to provide support for projects that improve health information literacy and increase the ability of patients, family members, students, and members of the public to find and use health information; or improve health professionals’ access to, awareness of, and skills for locating high-quality biomedical and health information
  • TechQuity Project Award: ($25,000/award). Enable organizations to deliver technology improvement and health and digital equity to underserved communities impacted by the digital divide via technology funding and online resource training.
  • Data Science and Services Project Award: ($25,000/award). Enable organizations to stimulate innovations in biomedical knowledge or data science, information, or research services
  • Professional Development Award: ($2,000/award). Strengthen the professional knowledge and experience of individual network members in data science or health information access, and build professional capacity in support of the goals of the NNLM.

Region 1 is inviting you to attend Open Office Hours. These events are scheduled on February 9, February 23, March 9, and March 23 at 1 PM ET. You must register in advance to attend one or more Office Hours. These sessions are intended to answer your questions regarding the project awards, project ideas, and the application process.

NNLM Region 1 staff are available for consultation and training on applicable NLM resources and potential projects. Someone will respond within three business days.
