The National Library of Medicine’s Office of Engagement and Training and our partners at BLH Technologies, Inc will be hosting summer interns between May and August 2022, working on projects in the areas of library and information science, research, communications, and training.

We invite internship applications from candidates with education across the humanities and social sciences (including library and information science, public health, communications, and others). Candidates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and other minority-serving institutions (MSIs) are particularly encouraged to apply.

Interns will primarily be responsible for conducting research and collecting data related to biomedical and public health curriculum at minority-serving institutions (MSIs). Additional projects may include updating training materials and website content, developing storyboards and data visualizations, and supporting evaluations.

All or most of the interns’ time will be spent working virtually.

Benefits to Interns

  • A monthly stipend
  • An opportunity to gain direct experience working with the federal government in support of important public health programs
  • Mentorship and training opportunities; a personalized professional development plan
  • An intellectually stimulating interdisciplinary learning community

Expectations from Interns

  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Work with staff from BLH and NLM to support research, communications, and training projects within the library and information science field.
  • Report work progress to assigned supervisor; contribute to reports and presentations as tasked.
  • Commitment to work 20-30 hours per week between May 23 and August 12, 2022. If needed, approval may be granted for slight modifications due to school calendars.
